Physical Properties
Turbidity
A measure of cloudiness caused by suspended particles.
What is Turbidity?
Turbidity quantifies how much light is scattered by particles suspended in water.
Why test for it?
Turbidity is a fast indicator of particulate content and is often used in filter performance testing.
Where can it come from?
- Disturbance in distribution pipework
- Particulates from the source
- Corrosion or scale material
How is it measured?
Measured nephelometrically and reported in NTU.
What does my result mean?
Turbidity indicates particle presence but not particle identity; microplastic or metals analysis is needed for that.
