Manganese
A geologically common metal that can affect colour and taste.
What is Manganese?
Manganese occurs naturally in rocks and soils and can dissolve into groundwater under low-oxygen conditions.
Why test for it?
Manganese is a standard parameter for private supplies and boreholes and is often reported with iron.
Where can it come from?
- Natural geology
- Groundwater under reducing conditions
- Deposits within distribution pipework
How is it measured?
Determined by ICP-MS, reported in µg/L.
What does my result mean?
Manganese results are usually read together with iron and turbidity.
