What does a water filter performance test actually measure?
The difference between influent and effluent, under defined conditions, for a defined list of parameters.

The core measurement
Performance testing compares the water entering a product with the water leaving it. Everything else — challenge water design, flow rate, volume, temperature — exists to make that comparison meaningful and repeatable.
What gets defined in advance
Target parameters and their analytical methods. Challenge water composition. Flow and volume conditions. Sampling points and intervals. The number of product units tested.
Fixing these before testing is what allows results to be compared between prototypes or across production batches.
What the result is not
A performance result describes the units tested under the conditions used. It is not a certification, and it does not automatically authorise a specific marketing claim.
