VOCs
VOCs
Volatile organic compounds, requiring headspace-free sampling.
What is VOCs?
VOCs are organic compounds that readily evaporate, including solvents and fuel-related compounds.
Why test for it?
VOCs are investigated where land use, odour or a specific product claim makes them relevant.
Where can it come from?
- Solvent use and industrial legacy sites
- Fuel storage
- Some building materials
How is it measured?
Determined by GC-MS, typically with headspace or purge-and-trap introduction. Samples must be collected without headspace in the correct vials.
What does my result mean?
VOC results depend heavily on sampling technique; the sampling instructions supplied form part of the method.
